President Yoon Suk-yeol held a summit meeting with Alar Karis, the President of Estonia, who is visiting South Korea on the 12th, to discuss the development of bilateral relations and practical cooperation measures.
On the morning of the same day, President Yoon held a summit meeting with President Karis at the Yongsan Presidential Office, where they discussed cooperation in areas such as cyber and defense, according to the presidential office.
President Yoon stated, "South Korea, a leading IT nation, and Estonia have had active cooperation in fields such as cybersecurity and e-government," adding, "I hope cooperation will expand in research and development (R&D) and defense in the future." President Karis responded by expressing hope for expanded cooperation in defense and digital sectors, where South Korea has global competitiveness.
The two leaders shared concerns regarding the international situation, including the invasion of Ukraine and military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, and agreed to cooperate for security and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
In this regard, President Karis emphasized, "No illegal use of force, including the invasion of Ukraine, can be tolerated by the international community." President Yoon also proposed, "Let us work together to uphold the rules-based international order and promote peace."
Regarding the 2030 Busan World Expo, President Yoon appealed for support, emphasizing that it will be a platform for solidarity promoting freedom, peace, and prosperity for humanity. In response, President Karis said, "One of the reasons why many businesspeople accompanied me on this visit to Korea is to explore the current status of preparations for the Busan World Expo and ways to promote Korea-Estonia economic cooperation."
