The Gyeonggi Economic Science Promotion Agency announced on the 12th that it has established the 'Gyeonggi Business Center Tashkent' in Uzbekistan to secure a foothold for entering the Central Asian market.
GBC Tashkent is the 13th overseas office opened by the Gyeonggi Agency, following locations such as Los Angeles in the USA, Moscow in Russia, Mumbai in India, and Shanghai in China. It was established to provide market information and support sales channels locally on behalf of small and medium-sized enterprises in the province that find it difficult to expand overseas.
The ET DX Campus, where GBC Tashkent is located, houses the headquarters of East Telecom (ET), a subsidiary of Korea Telecom (KT) in Uzbekistan. It is a newly constructed building where domestic related organizations and companies such as KOTRA and Samsung are scheduled to move in, making it an optimal location for supporting provincial companies.
The opening of GBC Tashkent is expected to play an important role in the competition for market share within Central Asia amid the restructuring of supply chains in the Eurasian Economic Union region following the Russia-Ukraine war.
Kang Seong-cheon, president of the Gyeonggi Agency, said, "Uzbekistan has been a long-standing business partner, having established diplomatic relations with Korea in 1992 as the first Central Asian country to do so," and added, "We will spare no effort to support excellent small and medium-sized enterprises in the province to enter the market through GBC Tashkent."
