"Now It's Our Time to Give Back"
Hyundai Motor Group released a new story video on the 9th to support Busan's bid for the World Expo. This is to make every effort in the bidding competition ahead of the final vote for the 2030 World Expo host city scheduled for November.
Hyundai Motor Group unveiled the promotional video for the bid titled "Busan Initiative with the Whole World," which captures the story of Busan, an advanced city that has become a driving force behind South Korea's development. The video incorporates the "Busan Initiative," which shares the growth experience of transforming from a recipient country to a donor country with developing countries around the world.
This video is the third one created by Hyundai Motor Group to support Busan's World Expo bid. Previously, Hyundai Motor Group released ▲ "Busan citizens invite you all," featuring Busan citizens introducing the city's capabilities in 15 languages, and ▲ "Busan is ready!," featuring foreign residents in Korea from 17 member countries of the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) explaining Busan's true image and competitiveness in their native languages.

The video contrasts Busan's past and present to show that the war-devastated South Korea developed from a poor country and developing nation into today's economic and cultural powerhouse with continuous support from countries around the world. It naturally tells the story of South Korea and Busan's will to pursue a sustainable future for humanity by sharing their remarkable growth experience and accumulated capabilities through the Busan World Expo, discussing and solving issues for future generations.
In particular, rather than focusing on the economic effects or competitive logic of hosting large-scale international events, the video enhances its persuasive power with a message of solidarity, hoping that the Busan World Expo will serve as a future solution platform that repays the help South Korea has received from the international community while sharing its growth experience.
A Hyundai Motor Group official said, "Ahead of the 5th competitive presentation and the BIE General Assembly and final host city vote to be held in Paris, France, on November 28, we have convincingly presented Busan's unique competitiveness and vision," adding, "This is to spread domestic and international consensus for Busan's World Expo bid and to capture the last-minute votes of BIE member countries."

The video starts by turning back time from Busan in 2023 to the outbreak year of the Korean War, 1950, showing scenes of Busan and various parts of South Korea devastated by war with the phrase "In 1950, we were not ready." It then emphasizes that the rapid economic growth known as the "Miracle on the Han River" and successful post-war recovery were supported by assistance from countries around the world.
The video sequentially reviews the history of successfully hosting mega-events multiple times, from the 1988 Seoul Olympics that led to harmony during the Cold War era, to the first co-hosted World Cup in 2002 (Korea-Japan), and the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
It also shows that South Korea's rise as a technological powerhouse and cultural content powerhouse?from advanced technology to K-pop and K-dramas?was backed by the response and support of various countries. It mentions that from being a poor country receiving international aid to becoming the country that sparked the K-syndrome, global support and solidarity were always present.
