U.S. President Donald Trump posted an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated video on his social media depicting a military aircraft bearing the Iranian flag being struck and exploding after a laser attack from a U.S. warship. While the move may be interpreted as an attempt to pressure Iran in ceasefire negotiations, some critics argue that it trivializes the gravity of war.

View original imageOn May 17 (local time), President Trump uploaded a roughly five-second video to his Truth Social account. The footage shows a U.S. warship, adorned with the American flag, firing what appears to be a high-powered laser weapon at a military aircraft marked with the Iranian flag. The targeted aircraft is immediately engulfed in flames and explodes midair.
The video is believed to be AI-generated rather than actual footage. President Trump’s image is also inserted into one side of the video. He gestures rhythmically with his hands, and as the aircraft approaches, he utters phrases such as “It came our way,” “Fire,” and “Boom.”
President Trump subsequently posted another version of the video featuring himself more prominently, along with several other similarly produced videos in quick succession.
This has been interpreted as a pressure message aimed at highlighting Iran’s lack of cooperation on a ceasefire agreement. However, concerns have also been raised about the president appearing to trivialize war by casually sharing AI-generated videos that evoke military conflict.
Recently, President Trump has frequently posted large amounts of AI-generated images and videos on Truth Social. Many of these posts criticize his opponents or highlight his own achievements, and a significant number feature AI-created mockery or satirical scenes shared without further explanation.
