'Rice Bread Map, Promotional Video, and Contest'... Gyeonggi-do Rolls Up Sleeves to Expand Rice Consumption
Gyeonggi Province will hold a nationwide rice baking contest following the creation of the Gyeonggi Rice Bread Map and rice bread promotional video. This is a measure to expand the declining rice consumption.
On the 8th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will hold the 3rd Nationwide Rice Baking Contest and Gyeonggi Rice Bread Exhibition at Hall 6 of KINTEX Exhibition Center 2 in Goyang City on October 21.
The 'Nationwide Rice Baking Contest,' which started in 2021 to expand the development of various rice bakery products, received applications from 228 teams this year. The number of applicants more than tripled compared to last year's contest (77 teams).
Gyeonggi Province will hold the competition on the 21st for a total of 30 teams that advanced to the finals, including 15 teams in the brunch category and 15 teams in the dessert category.
Along with the final competition, Gyeonggi Province will hold the 'Gyeonggi Rice Bread Exhibition' as a consumer participation event, featuring last year's award-winning companies and exhibiting, tasting, and selling Gyeonggi rice bread products.
Earlier, on the 6th, Gyeonggi Province launched the Gyeonggi Rice Bread Map website (www.gricebaking.com), which marks bakeries selling rice bread products by city and county on the Gyeonggi Province map.
The Rice Bread Map introduces detailed information such as addresses and websites of 14 bakeries in the province, along with recommended rice breads from each bakery, including rice cheese castella, Gapyeong pine nut madeleine, and oven seolgi (steamed rice cake).
Additionally, to expand the consumption of bread and desserts made from rice, a promotional video for Gyeonggi rice bread was produced in collaboration with the famous YouTuber 'Jjuyang.' In the video released on Jjuyang's YouTube channel on the 7th, Jjuyang showcased an enthusiastic mukbang featuring various types of Gyeonggi rice bread.

Park Jong-min, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Agriculture, Fisheries and Life Sciences Bureau, explained, "We plan to support rice baking startups and product development through contests for rice-related product development and consumption expansion, and to promote various rice consumption stimulation projects."
