The event, held over three days starting from the 4th, attracted over 600 global food ingredient companies and distributors, with more than 40,000 food industry professionals visiting.
Samyang Corporation participated for the fourth consecutive year to understand trends in the Japanese food ingredient market and expand local business opportunities. This year, they expanded their booth and actively promoted their products to clients and on-site visitors.
In addition to the alternative sweetener allulose, Samyang exhibited prebiotic materials such as indigestible maltodextrin and kestose. They also provided tasting samples of carbonated drinks, chocolates, and jellies made with these materials.
Allulose is a sweet component found in figs and grapes that provides a sweetness similar to sugar but with zero calories, making it an alternative sweetener. Thanks to its properties similar to fructose and its clean sweetness, it can be widely applied in beverages, snacks, dairy products, and sauces.
Samyang is accelerating the expansion of overseas sales channels for allulose under the brand name 'Nexweet.' To this end, in March 2020, it obtained the highest food safety grade 'Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS)' certification from the U.S. FDA. GRAS is a list of ingredients that can be used in food without safety concerns.
Indigestible maltodextrin is a water-soluble dietary fiber containing more than 85% dietary fiber, serving as a health functional food ingredient that can aid bowel movement, suppress postprandial blood sugar rise, and improve blood triglyceride levels. It has lower sugar content and sweetness compared to sugar, making it useful for enhancing dietary fiber content and reducing sugar.
Another exhibited material, kestose, is a major component of fructooligosaccharides, which Samyang successfully developed first in Korea. It is a next-generation prebiotic material that can be realized in crystalline form.
