Ulsan City Announces Winners of the 13th Public Design Contest
Park Juhyun's "Ulsan Opera House (ULSAN OPERA HOUSE)" was selected as the grand prize winner of the 13th Ulsan City Public Design Contest.
This contest was held to discover public designs with high usability and aesthetics. The winning works may be utilized in the construction of the Taehwagang Performance Hall, a key project promoted by Ulsan City.
The contest theme was "A World-Class Opera House on Taehwagang," and a total of 65 entries were submitted nationwide from August 29 to 31.
Ulsan City completed the final judging of the entries on September 15 and, after a verification process by September 27, selected a total of 27 award-winning works, including one grand prize, two gold prizes, two silver prizes, and two bronze prizes.

View original imageThe grand prize-winning "Ulsan Opera House (ULSAN OPERA HOUSE)" is a work inspired by Onggi (traditional Korean earthenware). It was praised for its architectural design that harmonizes with the curves of the Taehwagang River and well represents Ulsan’s regional characteristics, creating a memorable form.
The judges commented, "The entries in this contest well expressed Ulsan’s regional identity according to the theme, and many high-quality works were submitted considering originality, symbolism, usability, and aesthetics, raising the contest’s level significantly."
An official from Ulsan City said, "We thank all participants who showed great interest nationwide and submitted high-quality works for the symbolic performance hall construction in Ulsan. We hope for much interest and participation in next year’s Ulsan City Public Design Contest as well."

The award-winning works can be viewed on the Ulsan City website and will be exhibited on the first floor of the Ulsan City Hall main building from the 10th to the 13th. The awards ceremony will be held alongside the exhibition during the 7th Ulsan Architecture Culture Festival, taking place from November 2 to 5.
