Badminton men's doubles world ranking 15th Choi Sol-gyu (Yonex) and Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance) advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games by defeating a formidable opponent. In the men's doubles round of 16 held on the 4th at Binjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, they made a comeback victory against China's Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang (world ranking 2nd) with a score of 2-1 (21-10 18-21 23-21). They avenged their previous three consecutive losses in World Badminton Federation (BWF) tournaments and secured their precious first win.
The two players exchanged one set each and were trailing 13-19 in the third set. However, with calm play, they gradually reduced the gap, and despite facing match points and a bleak situation, they tenaciously took two points to even the score at 20-20. At the second deuce of 21-21, they scored consecutive points, silencing the enthusiastic Chinese home crowd.
