10 Police Officers Promoted for Chasing Drunk Driver and Arresting MZ Gangsters
Police officers who chased and arrested a drunk driver and those who apprehended MZ gangsters operating illegal sports gambling sites were promoted to higher ranks.
On the 27th, Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, visited the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency and Chungnam Police Agency to promote 10 police officers who made significant contributions in investigating major crimes.
Sergeant Kwon Hyuk-gwang of the Ansan Danwon Police Station under the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency was recognized for his achievement in arresting a suspect without any casualties by reasonably using physical force, including a firearm, in a situation where a driver, who was in a state of intoxication severe enough to have his license revoked, ignored stop orders and fled about 14 km, damaging 16 civilian vehicles and 2 patrol cars, posing a high risk of further human and property damage. Commissioner Yoon said, “Drunk driving is a crime that poses a great threat while being close to the daily lives of ordinary citizens,” and added, “We highly evaluate the judgment and proactiveness in making the optimal decision according to the situation.”
Lieutenant Shin Dong-su of the Cyber Investigation Division at the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency apprehended 75 members of a messenger phishing gang who embezzled 4.3 billion KRW, and Lieutenant Lee Won-jun of the Forensic Science Division was recognized for identifying the suspect’s identity through meticulous on-site investigation in a high-value art theft case worth approximately 1 billion KRW.
Additionally, Sergeant Oh Chang-rok of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit, Sergeant Kwon Jang-woon of the Violent Crime Investigation Unit, Sergeant Park Sang-kwon of the Gwacheon Police Station Investigation Division, and Sergeant Park Geun-yang of the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency Investigation Division were promoted for their achievements in arresting suspects who threatened to file complaints or extorted money under the pretext of seniority fees, mainly at construction sites in the metropolitan area, during the “Special Crackdown on Violent Acts at Construction Sites” conducted until August.
At the Chungnam Police Agency, Sergeant Noh Hyun-jin of the Violent Crime Investigation Unit was promoted after arresting 63 MZ generation gang members who formed nationwide solidarity groups through social networking services and operated gambling sites or committed retaliatory assaults. In addition, Lieutenant Moon Geun-ho of the Cyber Investigation Division apprehended 154 members of a gang operating an online gambling site worth 400 billion KRW by streaming overseas casino company videos to adult PC bangs, and Sergeant Jang Jong-cheol of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit was honored with a promotion for his contributions to the special crackdown on violent acts at construction sites.
