Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that its employment rate for the first half of 2023 reached 65.2%, ranking first among Seoul’s autonomous districts.
According to the '2023 First Half Regional Employment Survey Major Employment Indicators by City and District' released last month by Statistics Korea, the district’s employment rate rose by 2.9% from 62.3% last year to 65.2%. Additionally, the employment rate for those aged 15 to 64 was 73.1%, an increase of 3.4% from 69.7% last year.
In particular, the district has been actively providing job information and linking job seekers to employment, achieving a 50% employment success rate by helping one out of every two visitors to the Job Plus Center secure a job.
The district explained that these results are due to focused efforts during the 8th elected term, including ▲supporting youth employment in preparation for the 4th industrial revolution through programs such as digital marketing expert training ▲entrepreneurship support through startup idea contests ▲customized job creation through job fairs and job matching ▲and key projects like online marketing consulting to strengthen the competitiveness of win-win companies.
Specifically, the district is promoting various projects such as ▲‘Visiting Job Matching,’ which directly connects companies with hiring plans to job seekers by visiting them ▲job programs targeting seniors, middle-aged, youth, people with disabilities, and multicultural families ▲and providing employment training focused on field demand such as certification, specialized skills, and facility management, all aimed at creating quality jobs and resolving mismatches.
Going forward, the district plans to fully support residents’ employment and entrepreneurship through ▲‘Job Fairs’ for middle-aged and senior citizens ▲‘Employment Mentoring Concerts’ featuring employment lectures and open mock interviews with HR personnel from major domestic and foreign companies ▲and operating dedicated residential spaces for young entrepreneurs.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “Despite the economic downturn, it is very meaningful that both employment and job placement rates have achieved good results through everyone’s interest and effort,” adding, “Since the best welfare is jobs, we will continue to devote all our efforts to expanding jobs and supporting employment to make Yeongdeungpo a place overflowing with job opportunities.”
