Jang Geum-yong, Director of Local Administration at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Appointed as the First Vice Mayor of Changwon Special City
Jang Geum-yong (age 50, Grade 3), Director of the Local Administration Division at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, assumed the position of 1st Vice Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, on the 25th.
Vice Mayor Jang was born in Sacheon, graduated from Jinju High School and Dongguk University with a degree in Police Administration, and began his public service career after passing the 43rd Administrative Examination in 1999. He has served as Director of the Local Regulatory Innovation Division at the Ministry of Security and Public Administration, Director of the Local Autonomy and Decentralization System Division and the Economic Organization Division at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and most recently as Director of the Local Administration Division at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
While serving as Director of the Local Autonomy and Decentralization System Division, Vice Mayor Jang laid the foundation for "resident-centered local autonomy" through a comprehensive revision of the Local Autonomy Act for the first time in 30 years. During his tenure as Director of the Local Administration Division, he was recognized as an expert in local autonomy by spearheading the 1st Korea Local Era Expo, which consolidated and expressed the will for balanced regional development and marked the beginning of the "Local Era where anywhere in Korea is a good place to live."
He is especially expected to be the right person to enhance the status of Changwon Special City by opening a true era of region-led balanced development through strengthening local governments' autonomy capabilities, communication, cooperation, and financial power.

Vice Mayor Jang expressed his aspirations, saying, "At a time when the Local Era Committee has been launched and each local government has begun to advocate for the Local Era, I feel a heavy responsibility as a member of Changwon Special City with a population of 1.03 million. I will contribute to strengthening cooperation and communication with central and metropolitan governments to help Changwon rise as a Northeast Asia hub city."
