Kim Jaewon: "The Democratic Party Will Recover... How Long Will Jeong Cheongrae's Reign Last?"
"Pro-Myeong Faction Will Become Collaborators of the Democratic Party"
After the arrest warrant for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was approved, the party's floor leadership resigned, and Jeong Cheong-rae, a pro-Lee senior supreme council member of the Democratic Party, is currently acting as the party leader. Kim Jae-won, a supreme council member of the People Power Party, predicted the recovery of the Democratic Party, saying, "How long can Jeong Cheong-rae's reign last?"
On the 22nd, Kim said on KBS's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strongest Current Affairs,' "Although the Democratic Party's supporters are currently very agitated, I believe that the Democratic Party's resilience will soon be restored."
Within the pro-Lee faction, there is an opinion that Lee should maintain his position as party leader even if he is detained, citing the lack of a 'post-Lee Jae-myung' figure. Currently, the party is also led by Jeong, who is pro-Lee.
However, Kim said, "Jeong Cheong-rae is currently acting as the party leader in his capacity as senior supreme council member, but how long can Jeong Cheong-rae's reign last?" He added, "The lawmakers will elect a new floor leader and quickly restore resilience."
He also predicted that the 'pro-Lee faction' would be ousted. He said, "I believe a new party leader will be elected who can fully demonstrate leadership," adding, "If that happens, many who have been recklessly acting as the pro-Lee faction will become collaborators of the Democratic Party's downfall."
He continued, "Isn't this like Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon cutting out this very chronic and cancerous part that has been troubling the Democratic Party?" When the host asked if Minister Han was like an X-Man, Kim replied, "Not an X-Man, but someone who is faithful to his duties."

While some speculate about a party split, Kim predicted that the pro-Lee faction's downfall would not lead to a split. He said, "The so-called pro-Lee faction has nothing to present from the day Lee goes to prison," adding, "What has sustained Lee's leadership was, in a way, fear and political fandom politics, not his political record, role, experience, leadership, or vision for the future."
