Seodaemun-gu Promotes 'Nundubin Tansaeng' Project to Boost Senior Citizens' Vitality
Publication of Fashion Photo Book, Creation of Reading Reflection Book, Making Chocolate and Chocolate Boxes, etc.
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 20th that it will promote the year-round project ‘Makeover - Dazzling Birth’ to enhance leisure welfare for low-income and elderly people living alone.
‘Makeover’ is a term meaning ‘transformation’ or ‘metamorphosis,’ and it carries the meaning of ‘positively changing not only an individual’s appearance but also their tastes and habits.’
Specifically, the district will collaborate with local universities and bookstores to carry out ▲publication of a makeover fashion photo book ▲production of a reading appreciation book specialized for the elderly ▲a program for making chocolates and chocolate boxes.
First, the ‘photo book publication’ is conducted under the guidance of Professor Kim Miyoung from the Beauty Management Department at Myongji College and with the help of 10 university student volunteers. The elderly participants will attempt to find their own fashion styles, reflect on their usually forgotten selves, and after fashion styling, participate in photo shoots and the production of the photo book. The photo book will include before and after photos of the program participants for comparison.
The ‘reading appreciation book production’ is a program where the elderly read books together and discuss them in the comfortable atmosphere of a caf?, then write reading reflections. It is expected to enhance participants’ self-esteem and sense of accomplishment, adding vitality to their daily lives.
The district organizes the writings into an appreciation book and provides it to the elderly so they can keep it.
Participants in the ‘chocolate and chocolate box making’ program make chocolates themselves and complete the process by placing them in boxes. Through sharing life stories and tasting various chocolates, they gain emotional stability.
In particular, the ‘Elderly Makeover Styling Class with Myongji College’ was held on the 12th of this month as the first class of the second semester, where elderly participants and university student volunteers together took part in a ‘Blue Eco Bag Making Program.’ This class received much positive feedback as it uses the delicate sense of touch in the hands to promote physical and mental stability and concentration.
