Pyeongtaek City Next Year's Living Wage Hourly Rate Set at 11,040 Won
3.5% Increase Compared to This Year
Applied to Employees of Affiliated Public Institutions
On the 20th, Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it recently held a labor-management-government council meeting and decided the next year's 'living wage' to be 11,040 KRW per hour.
The 'living wage' is a wage set by local governments through ordinances to enable low-income workers employed at public institutions in each region to maintain a comfortable livelihood. It is generally set at an amount slightly higher than the minimum wage.
The living wage decided for next year is 3.5% higher than this year's 10,670 KRW and is 11.97% higher than the government's announced minimum wage for next year (9,860 KRW per hour).
The decided living wage will be officially announced by September 30 according to the Pyeongtaek City Living Wage Ordinance.

Mayor Jeong Jang-seon said, "Despite difficult financial conditions, we applied a higher increase rate than the minimum wage increase rate of 2.5%," adding, "We hope this will help stabilize the lives of Pyeongtaek City workers, whose living conditions have become difficult due to rising prices and decreased real income, and improve their quality of life and welfare."
