Cultural Heritage Administration Supports Transmission Communities Including 'Continuing Our Hanbok'
21 Cases Selected as Support Targets for Next Year
The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 19th that it has selected twenty-one projects, including Jeonju City's 'Continuing Our Hanbok' and Yeongam County's 'Pride of Tradition, Learning Ssireum Play through Steam,' as support targets for the activation of transmission communities next year.

View original imageTransmission communities refer to groups that voluntarily pass down intangible heritage throughout the Korean Peninsula. To make these sustainable intangible heritage, the Cultural Heritage Administration provides up to 100 million KRW per project annually (with a 50% national subsidy rate). The respective local governments will carry out documentation and listing projects, education, and experience programs tailored to regional characteristics to spread the value of intangible heritage community categories.
The Cultural Heritage Administration held a public contest starting in June. After verifying transmission potential and project management capabilities, it selected twenty-one projects, 31% more than last year. These include Gangneung City's 'Searching for the Sounds of Gangneung,' Geochang County's 'Jangdokdae, Connecting the Era,' Yecheon City's 'Documentation and Listing Project for the Transmission and Utilization of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Archery,' Wando County's 'Wando Fish Trap Exploration,' Gangjin County's 'Transmission and Expansion of the Value of Gangjin Wolchulsan Tea Culture as Intangible Heritage and Establishment of Transmission Community,' Jeonju City's 'Continuing Our Hanbok,' and Boryeong City's 'Pearl in the Mudflats, Boryeong's Haenyeo Culture.'

A Cultural Heritage Administration official stated, "We expect local governments to actively promote research, investigation, and transmission activities to revitalize intangible heritage community categories, discover and nurture regional transmission communities, and sustain community-led transmission activities."
