Urban Regeneration Residential Environment Improvement Best Practice 'Excellence Award'

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it won the grand prize in the ‘Village Management Social Cooperative Best Practice Competition’ for the Suncheon Jeojeon-dong Garden Village Specialization Project and the Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, as well as the excellence award in the ‘Urban Regeneration Residential Environment Improvement Best Practice’ category at the ‘2023 Urban Re-Creation Festival.’

The Vitamin Jeojeongol Village Management Social Cooperative in Jeojeon-dong, Suncheon, specialized the village into Jeojeon-dong Garden Village, where residents cultivate and manage gardens created by utilizing leftover and idle spaces after urban regeneration.

Additionally, a space for communication with residents was established using the base facilities created through urban regeneration.

More than 10 locations are operated, including the Vitamin Center, a resident community facility; a village hotel that can accommodate visitors within Jeojeon-dong; and Jeojeon Nanumteo, a shared economy cultural space to promote sharing culture.

Choi Mi-seon, Director of Urban Space Regeneration at Suncheon City, said, “We will continue to do our best with residents to ensure that Suncheon’s urban regeneration projects contribute to the vitality and development of the region and produce sustainable results.”

Meanwhile, the ‘Urban Re-Creation Festival’ was co-hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Chungcheongnam-do, and Cheonan City under the theme ‘Happy Urban Re-Creation Embracing Future Generations.’ It was held for three days from the 13th at the former Oryong Stadium area in Cheonan, with participation from 16 nationwide metropolitan local governments and 26 basic local governments.
