"Husband Files 850 Billion Won Lawsuit Against Obstetrics Clinic Over Trauma from Watching Wife's Delivery Scene"
Recently in Australia, a man has drawn attention by filing a lawsuit against an obstetrics and gynecology hospital. He claimed that he suffered psychological trauma after watching his wife give birth as recommended by the hospital.
The British daily Daily Mail reported on the 15th (local time) that a man named Anil Kopula, living in Melbourne, Australia, filed a lawsuit against the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne seeking 1 billion Australian dollars (approximately 858.75 billion KRW) in damages.
When his wife gave birth via cesarean section at the hospital, Kopula watched the entire delivery process from beside her. Afterwards, he suffered from severe trauma to the extent that he could not even look at his wife's face properly, and stated that this prevented him from having a normal married life.
Kopula claimed, "The doctor told me it was best to stay by my wife's side throughout the delivery process. During that time, I was mentally shocked by seeing my wife's blood and other things, but no measures were taken for me."
However, the hospital stated that while they could provide psychiatric treatment support, they could not offer compensation.
Kopula's lawsuit was ultimately dismissed at the trial held on the 12th. The judge ruled, "This is not a serious enough psychological shock to warrant compensation."
Meanwhile, it is known that many men worldwide, like Kopula, have reported psychological trauma after witnessing their wives' childbirth scenes.
In 2020, a story was reported by local media about a Taiwanese man who, after watching the birth of his first child, refused to have sexual relations with his wife for over five years and committed adultery with another woman. The man lamented, "Every time I try to be intimate with my wife, the bloody smell of the delivery room comes to mind."
In fact, some experts express negative opinions about husbands entering the delivery room. While there are cases where the couple's love grows stronger, there are also negative aspects such as trauma caused by the shock.
Women giving birth naturally experience urination and defecation during the delivery process. Husbands who see their wives mixed with amniotic fluid, placenta, and other secretions sometimes never recover from the shock for their entire lives.
