'International Disaster Resilience Leaders Forum' to be held in Songdo, Incheon on the 18th-19th
The '2023 Incheon International Disaster Resilience Leaders Forum' will be held on the 18th and 19th at Songdo Convensia in Incheon. This forum is an international event that aims to develop strategies to strengthen urban resilience and share ways to reduce disaster risks. It was first launched last year and is now in its second year.
This year's event, themed 'Utilizing Technology and Building Partnerships for Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction,' is co-hosted by Incheon City, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and the Incheon Research Institute, with support from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) of Korea, China, and Japan.
Leaders in disaster safety from 20 countries around the world, including mayors and vice mayors from 13 overseas cities such as Bangkok, Thailand, and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, will gather to discuss international cooperation measures. An academic discussion will also be held with participants including Deputy Director Jieu from the China Low Carbon Ecological Planning Research Center, and outstanding disaster safety cases from various countries will be presented.
The forum consists of five sessions: ▲ Earthquake research and international cooperation for disaster risk reduction in Northeast and Southeast Asia ▲ Best practices in utilizing disaster risk reduction technology ▲ Best practices in utilizing disaster risk reduction technology in MCR 2030 (Making Cities Resilient: a UN campaign aiming to create safe, resilient, and sustainable cities by 2030) cities ▲ Utilization of technology for climate change and disaster risk reduction ▲ International cooperation and partnership building for disaster risk reduction.
In particular, on the 19th, the Earthquake and Land Analysis Director of Istanbul, Turkey, will participate as a speaker to present cases of international cooperation and partnerships for recovery and normalization following the major earthquake in Turkey in February, and discuss international cooperation measures for global disaster occurrences.
An official from Incheon City stated, "Incheon was certified as the first MCR 2030 Resilience Hub in Asia by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction in November 2021, playing a leading role in the field of disaster safety." They added, "This forum will be an important opportunity to discuss ways to respond to rapidly changing climate change and reduce disaster risks together with domestic and international experts in disaster safety."
