Ahn Hyeong-ju, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Proposes 'Fostering Unemployment Teams for Disabled and Non-Disabled'

Ahn Hyeong-ju, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, proposed the establishment of the "Seo-gu Disabled Sports Corporate Team" to foster the first disabled and non-disabled corporate team within the same sport in the district during a 5-minute speech at the 314th extraordinary session on the 11th.

Councilor Ahn stated, "The Seo-gu fencing team was founded in 1989 and has produced several national representatives over 30 years, contributing to elevating Korea's international standing in the fencing ?p?e category. Recently, it has also led the popularization of fencing among Seo-gu residents through community contribution activities."

He added, "Regarding the status of disabled corporate teams nationwide, there are 26 sports disciplines with 8 public institutions, 8 private companies, 58 city and provincial sports councils, and 21 local governments including Gwangju Metropolitan City operating such teams. On average, a budget of about 300 million to 400 million KRW is invested to expand infrastructure for disabled athletes and to provide new dreams and goals. Therefore, the fostering of the Seo-gu Disabled Sports Corporate Team should be actively promoted."

Councilor Ahn also said, "During the 312th session, I raised questions about the Seo-gu Facilities Management Corporation's disabled employment levy, specifically pointing out issues related to the disabled employment levy. The establishment of a disabled fencing team within the Seo-gu Facilities Management Corporation is expected to enhance the corporation's image, stabilize management through the creation of stable disabled employment, and bring various other positive effects." He proposed the "Establishment of the Seo-gu Facilities Management Corporation Disabled Fencing Team."
