Additional Undersea Water Pipeline Installation from Incheon Yeongjongdo to Bukhang... Completion by End of Next Year
An underwater water transmission pipeline will be additionally installed to ensure a stable supply of tap water to Yeongjongdo, Incheon.
Incheon City announced on the 8th that it plans to lay a second underwater water pipeline, 2.54 km in length, connecting Yeongjongdo and Incheon North Port, with a budget of 71.3 billion KRW and aiming for completion by December next year. The city will excavate 60 meters deep from the land to create an underwater tunnel and then install a water pipe with a diameter of 1.2 meters inside the tunnel.
Following the completion of the launch shaft excavation at a depth of 59 meters underground in the North Port hinterland complex in June, underwater excavation work will begin on the 11th using a large Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) used for drilling tunnels.
Currently, the Yeongjong area, including Incheon Airport, is supplied with tap water produced at the Gochon Water Purification Plant in Seo-gu through a transmission pipeline installed on the seabed surface (between the North Port hinterland complex and Yeongjong Gu-eup ferry terminal). The city is promoting the installation of an additional transmission pipeline to prepare for emergency situations such as leaks in this pipeline.
Once the underwater water transmission pipeline duplication project is completed, it will not only provide a stable water supply to the Yeongjong area including Incheon Airport but also enable real-time water quality monitoring through water quality measuring devices, allowing for quick response in case of problems, and make maintenance such as pipeline cleaning easier.
An official from Incheon City stated, "We will proceed with the construction of the underwater water transmission pipeline without delay to ensure a stable supply of tap water to Yeongjong residents."
