Gwangju Shinsegae Starts Main Sale of Chuseok Gift Sets
Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Dong-hoon) will begin selling Chuseok holiday gift sets at the food market on the basement first floor of the main building starting from the 8th.
Amid growing concerns about seafood due to the discharge of contaminated water from Japanese nuclear power plants, Gwangju Shinsegae has prepared gift sets featuring domestically produced dried yellow croaker and tilefish that consumers can purchase with confidence. A wide range of excellent products from local farmers and fishermen in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions have also been made available to broaden consumer choices.
▲ Safe Seafood Gift Sets
Gwangju Shinsegae has prepared various seafood items so that consumers can purchase with peace of mind. Domestically produced dried yellow croaker, hairtail, and tilefish are carefully selected only after purchasing fresh seasonal catches from winter to spring in advance, rapidly freezing them, and passing food safety inspections.
In anticipation of increased demand for safe seafood, sufficient quantities have been prepared to cover the Lunar New Year supply next year as well. The representative product is the Miseong Yeonggwang Master Dried Yellow Croaker Set, available in various price ranges from 150,000 KRW to 400,000 KRW.
Only seafood products with confirmed radiation inspection certificates are handled, and products are purchased exclusively from local fisheries cooperatives’ auction markets that conduct regular radiation inspections, ensuring safe purchases.
▲ Local Specialty Gift Sets
Gwangju Shinsegae, which opened in the region in 1995 as the first Shinsegae Department Store, has taken the lead in regional cooperation in line with its status as a local corporation. Notably, it has prepared most fresh food products locally by utilizing the 'local buyer' system. This effort aims to secure sales channels for local farmers and fishermen who face difficulties due to the economic downturn.
As a result, sales of excellent local products increased by 10% compared to the previous year. Earlier, in 2021, there was a 15% growth compared to the previous year.
For this Chuseok as well, Gwangju Shinsegae is continuously striving to secure direct trade items with local producers from Hampyeong, Damyang, Gangjin, Jangheung, and other areas to improve farmers’ incomes and provide reasonably priced gift sets.
In particular, Im Hwaja’s Master Beef Jerky, made by the 72nd Korean Food Master, continues to enjoy steady popularity among consumers. Im Hwaja, who has been making beef jerky for over 20 years and even teaches classes, produces special beef jerky without any sweeteners, making it safe for children as well as a great snack with alcohol. It is conveniently packaged in 15g individual packs and is available for 69,000 KRW.
Damyang An Bokja Hangwa, also made by a Korean Food Master, is crafted from organic glutinous rice and domestic ingredients, making it a steady seller as a holiday gift set. The commonly sold Set No. 4 is priced at 50,000 KRW, while the more special Set No. 7 is available for 79,000 KRW for those seeking a more premium gift.
