Gwangju Seobu Fire Station Urges Ban on Illegal Parking in Fire Truck Only Zones
On the 7th, Gwangju Seobu Fire Station urged the prohibition of illegal parking in fire truck-only zones within apartment complexes to ensure the swift and smooth on-site activities of fire trucks in the event of a fire.
Since August 2018, under Article 21, Paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Fire Services Act, fire truck-only zones have been established in apartment complexes designated by Presidential Decree to prevent parking in these exclusive zones. This law was enacted to guarantee fire trucks' accessibility to the site and prompt firefighting activities, thereby enhancing public safety.
Additionally, according to Article 56, Paragraph 3 of the Fire Services Act, anyone who parks in or obstructs entry to these exclusive zones is subject to a fine of up to 1 million KRW.
This year, a total of 18 apartment complexes in the Gwangju area are subject to fines for illegal parking in fire truck-only zones, with 4 of these located in the Seo-gu district having received fines.
In particular, the fire department reported that as of the end of August, there have been 84 cases of illegal parking in fire truck-only zones this year, an increase of 27 cases compared to the same period last year, and requested citizens' cooperation.
