Construction Union Official Sentenced to 10 Months for Embezzling 72 Million Won at Construction Site
An executive of the Construction Union under the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) was sentenced to prison for extorting over 70 million won at a construction site.
According to the legal community on the 6th, Min Seong-cheol, Chief Judge of Criminal Division 3 at the Seoul Eastern District Court, sentenced Mr. A, a union branch chief in his 60s under the FKTU Construction Union, who was indicted in custody on charges of joint extortion, to 10 months in prison.

Mr. A is accused of extorting 72 million won from 20 construction companies located in the metropolitan area between December 2021 and November 2022. He allegedly demanded the hiring of union members from company officials under the pretext of collective bargaining at construction sites and threatened to disrupt construction work through rallies or protests if refused. It is also known that he instructed union members to collect amounts ranging from 5 million to 10 million won while visiting construction sites. During this process, Mr. A reportedly even created a performance graph comparing which union members had collected more money.
