Typhoon 'Haikui' Heavy Rain Causes 1 Death and 1 Missing in China

View original imageTyphoon 'Haikui' is causing damage as it pours over 300mm of rain on the eastern coast of China.
According to the emergency response headquarters in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, at around 4:15 a.m. on the 5th, a fire truck dispatched to rescue citizens was swept away by rising waters. There were nine people on the fire truck at the time. Authorities reported that as of 1 p.m., eight people have been rescued, but one person has died.
One other person is still being searched for.
In some areas, landslides have occurred, and fire brigades are conducting rescue operations. The exact scale of casualties is not yet known.

In some parts of Fuzhou City, more than 300mm of rain fell from 6 a.m. the previous day to 6 a.m. on this day due to the typhoon's impact. The Fuzhou meteorological authorities issued a red alert for heavy rain, and the education authorities ordered temporary school closures for kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools for the entire day.
