Additional 500,000 KRW Monthly Payment for Children Aged 1 to Under 2
Government Committee Mandates Youth Appointment... Reflecting Youth Voices
Starting January 1 next year, the child allowance for children under 1 year old will be increased to 1 million KRW per month. An additional 500,000 KRW per month will be provided for children aged 1 to under 2 years. Youth participation will be mandatory in all government committees.
The Office for Government Policy Coordination announced that the revision bills for the 'Child Allowance Act Enforcement Decree' and the 'Youth Basic Act Enforcement Decree' containing these details were reviewed and approved at the Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on the 5th.
First, to intensively support caregivers in the early stages of childbirth, the additional child allowance amount for children under 2 years old will be increased to 1 million KRW. The Child Allowance Act was amended in June to raise the amount from "500,000 KRW per month" to "an amount determined by Presidential Decree of 500,000 KRW or more per month," and the specific amount was finalized through the designation of the enforcement decree.

Youth participation in government committees will also be made mandatory in principle. This means that, except for exceptional cases such as diplomacy, national defense, and security, youth will be able to participate in policy-making in about 50 government committees. Currently, there are a total of 55 government committees chaired by the Prime Minister.
Previously, youth participation was required only in committees mainly dealing with youth policies, limiting youth involvement. However, going forward, youth participation will be mandatory in all committees in principle. Committees exempted from youth participation due to national security issues are limited to ▲committees handling individual cases, ▲committees related to diplomacy, national defense, and security, and ▲committees for internal institutional affairs.
The youth appointment ratio by committee includes the Youth Policy Coordination Committee, Local Youth Policy Coordination Committees, and the Special Committee for Youth Employment Promotion, where youth appointments exceed 30%. In response to the expansion of youth policies, an online 'Integrated Youth Policy Information System' based on cooperation and linkage between central and local governments will be established. Bang Ki-seon, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, stated, "We will use this as an opportunity to upgrade youth policies by enhancing accessibility to youth policies."
