KOSPI Ends Slightly Higher... Samsung Electronics Reclaims '70,000-Won Stock' on HBM3 Supply News
On the 1st, the KOSPI index closed slightly higher.
On that day, the KOSPI index closed at 2,563.71, up 7.44 points (0.29%) from the previous trading day. Foreign investors net bought 365.6 billion KRW, while individuals and institutions net sold 174.1 billion KRW and 217.2 billion KRW, respectively.
Among the top market capitalization groups in the KOSPI market, the 'blue-chip' Samsung Electronics surged 6.13%, closing at 71,000 KRW. This is the first time in a month since June 1 (71,100 KRW) that Samsung Electronics has closed above 70,000 KRW. Samsung Electronics showed strength throughout the trading session following news that it will supply high-bandwidth memory (HBM) HBM3 to Nvidia as early as next month.
Most other stocks, excluding Samsung Electronics, closed lower. LG Energy Solution (-4.04%), POSCO Holdings (-3.28%), Samsung SDI (-2.93%), and LG Chem (-2.23%) ended the day in the red.
Kim Seok-hwan, a researcher at Mirae Asset Securities, said, "The news that Samsung Electronics will supply HBM3 to Nvidia and the development of the industry's largest capacity DRAM were reflected, pushing the price above 70,000 KRW during the session." He added, "Samsung Electronics' strength led the KOSPI's rise, and foreign investors concentrated their buying on Samsung Electronics, intensifying the concentration effect." He further noted, "The KOSDAQ declined due to weakness in secondary batteries."
The KOSDAQ closed at 919.74, down 8.66 points (0.93%) from the previous trading day. Individual investors net bought 308.9 billion KRW, while foreign investors and institutions net sold 221.2 billion KRW and 77.4 billion KRW, respectively.
Among the top market capitalization groups in the KOSDAQ, EcoPro plunged 6.21%, and EcoPro BM also fell 4.93%. POSCO DX dropped 7.66%. On the other hand, Rainbow Robotics, ranked 10th in KOSDAQ market capitalization, rose 7.46% to close higher.

Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate closed at 1,318.8 KRW, down 3.0 KRW from the previous trading day.
