Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to Distribute 300,000 Accommodation Coupons for Chuseok Holiday
'Measures to Revitalize Domestic Demand Using K-Culture' Presentation
Free Access to Various Performances and Exhibitions, Attracting Chinese Tourists
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the 'K-Culture Utilization Domestic Demand Activation Plan' to promote domestic consumption during the Chuseok holiday at the Emergency Economic and Livelihood Meeting on the 31st of last month. The plan includes distributing accommodation coupons and offering free access to various performances and exhibitions. Minister Park Bo-gyun of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said, "We have prepared a 'domestic demand explosion project' to invigorate the lives of the people as we face the first Chuseok since the transition to the COVID-19 endemic," adding, "We will stimulate the consumption atmosphere with various events and discount benefits so that people can travel joyfully and enjoy themselves pleasantly."

View original imageOriginally planned to be distributed during the low travel season in November, 300,000 of the 600,000 accommodation coupons will be distributed early. The ministry viewed the golden holiday created by the designation of a temporary holiday on the 1st of next month as an opportunity to revitalize domestic travel. The discount coupons will be provided as 30,000 KRW coupons when purchasing accommodation products over 50,000 KRW through online travel agencies. The period is about two weeks, from the 27th of this month to the 15th of next month. One coupon per person will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Detailed information on how to use the coupons can be found on the Korea Tourism Organization's Korea Travel Online website.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also recruit additional companies and workers to participate in the 'Worker Vacation Support' program. This project supports domestic travel by having workers save 200,000 KRW and companies save 100,000 KRW, with the government adding an additional 100,000 KRW. About 140,000 people are already benefiting, but to promote domestic travel, up to 50,000 more people will be supported. The ministry stated, "It has been confirmed that there is an additional spending effect of 8.8 times compared to government support funds, which will help activate the domestic economy." Additional recruitment will be accepted from the 6th to the 22nd of this month on a company basis.
Cultural events for enjoying cultural life with the whole family will also be abundantly prepared. From the 28th to the 30th, the 'K-Music Festival (3 sessions)' using traditional Korean music will be held free of charge at the Blue House Grand Garden, and from the 28th to the 3rd of next month, the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage performance 'Great Heritage, Meeting Today' will be presented at the National Museum of Korea's Open Yard. From the 28th to the 30th, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Deoksugung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace, and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty will be open free of charge, and professional baseball tickets will be discounted up to 50% on Chuseok day.
