[IFA 2023] Samsung Presents 'Meaningful Connections'... LG Opens a 'Super High-Efficiency' World
#. Lee Ji-young (32) forgot to turn off the TV before leaving home. After turning off the TV through Samsung’s ‘SmartThings,’ she checks whether any other appliances or lights are on. Using the camera equipped in the ‘Bespoke Jet Bot AI,’ she also monitors her pet dog left alone at home in real time. Upon returning home, she receives exercise guidance through the smart TV and checks real-time calorie consumption with her ‘Galaxy Watch.’ She also sets the ‘Carbon Intensity Insights’ to consume energy at times when carbon emissions are lowest.
This is a convenient and enriched daily life experience offered by Samsung Electronics’ SmartThings. From September 1 to 5 (local time), Samsung Electronics operates SmartThings experience zones throughout Berlin, Germany, where Europe’s largest home appliance and IT exhibition, ‘IFA 2023,’ is held, presenting the future of residential spaces as described above. LG Electronics also announced the start of the residential war between the two home appliance rivals by unveiling the ‘LG Smart Cottage,’ a small modular house packed with sustainable technologies.
Samsung Electronics announced on the 1st that it will build a tiny house with a single-person household concept on the outskirts of the City Cube, the IFA 2023 exhibition hall, as an eco-friendly future residential type called the ‘Net Zero Home.’

The Net Zero Home is composed of Samsung Electronics TVs, various Bespoke appliances, Galaxy devices, heat pumps, as well as home solar inverters and batteries from SMA Solar Technology, smart meters and switches from ABB, and smart bulbs from Philips Hue, among other products from various SmartThings partners. Visitors can see how energy is produced directly at home through solar panels and home batteries, and how energy consumption by devices such as appliances and electric vehicle chargers is efficiently managed through SmartThings Energy.
Samsung Electronics has set up a premium experience zone at ‘Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe),’ the second-largest department store in Europe. It also operates in major stores located in central areas such as Alexanderplatz and Europa Center in collaboration with MediaMarkt and Saturn, Europe’s largest electronics retailers.

Benjamin Brown, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Samsung Electronics Europe, said, “Our own research confirmed that 70% of European consumers have high expectations for innovation in smart homes. We will continue to develop the SmartThings ecosystem, which is currently used by more than 280 million people worldwide, to expand ‘meaningful connected experiences’ that allow people to focus more on what matters in their daily lives.”

Visitors can observe the process of energy produced by solar panels or leftover energy used at home being stored and consumed in an ESS (Energy Storage System), as well as conveniently control appliances and monitor energy storage and consumption through LG ThinQ.
