Hwaeomsa Senior Monk Dochol Passes Away... September 1 Memorial Service
Jo Indang Docheol, a senior monk of Hwaeomsa Temple and the head monk of Hanmisa Temple, passed away at midnight on the 30th. He was 60 years in the Buddhist order and 82 years old.
In April 1962, Monk Docheol received the novice precepts (Sami) at Beomeosa Temple under the guidance of Monk Dongheon. In March 1965, he received the full ordination precepts (Gujok) at Beomeosa Temple under Monk Dongsan, and in 2009, he received the Dharma transmission (Jongsa Beopgye).
He served as the Director of the Buddhist Affairs Department at the Jogye Order Headquarters, Chairman of the Board for the establishment of Seongbulsa Temple Corporation in New York, USA, publisher of the Miju Buddhist Newspaper, and head of the Jogye Order's American headquarters. He was also active as the Senior Vice Chairman of the Jogye Order's Social Labor Committee.

The incense offering altar has been set up at Hwaeomsa Temple. The farewell ceremony will be held on September 1 at 10 a.m. at the Beomeumryo Hall of Hwaeomsa Temple as a gathering of disciples. The cremation will take place on the temple grounds.
