Police Request Arrest Warrant for Seoul National Tax Service Executive on Bribery Suspicion
An executive of the Seoul Regional Tax Office suspected of bribery is at a crossroads regarding detention.
According to the legal community on the 30th, Yoo Chang-hoon, the presiding judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, conducted a detention hearing (warrant substantive examination) in the morning for Yoo Mo, a director-level (Grade 3) executive of the Seoul Regional Tax Office, who is accused of bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
Yoo is suspected of earning several hundred million won in profits by participating in a paid-in capital increase of a steel company while serving at the Busan Regional Tax Office in 2020. At that time, Yoo was investigated to have had a conflict of interest with the steel company in relation to his duties.

The Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency conducted searches and seizures at Yoo’s residence and the steel company in May and June, and after investigating related parties, applied for an arrest warrant. The decision on Yoo’s detention is expected to be made this afternoon.
