Pyeongtaek City Completes Compensation Payments to Residents Near Military Airfield
Payment of 12.05 Billion KRW to Over 57,000 People
On the 30th, Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it has completed the payment of compensation to approximately 57,000 residents living in noise control areas near the military airbase.
This year, the military noise compensation amounted to 12.05 billion KRW and was paid sequentially from the 22nd to the 28th.
The compensation was set based on the aircraft noise level per person: ▲Type 1 (95 WECPNL or higher) at 60,000 KRW per month ▲Type 2 (90?95 WECPNL) at 45,000 KRW per month ▲Type 3 (80?90 WECPNL) at 30,000 KRW per month. However, the city added that individual compensation amounts were determined with some reductions depending on factors such as the time of moving in, actual residence period, and workplace location.
The compensation paid this time relates to noise damage incurred over the past year, and the city explained that the compensation program will continue next year. Residents who were unable to apply during this year’s application period and did not receive compensation can apply retroactively during next year’s application period (January to February).
