All Officers Involved in Fallen Police Officer Case Charged with Drug Offenses... Possibility of Additional Suspects
The police are investigating whether all seven companions present at the time used drugs in connection with the incident in which an active-duty police officer fell to his death from an apartment.
On the 29th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that they have booked seven men who gathered with Sergeant A, a man in his 30s belonging to the Gangwon Police Agency, on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
Sergeant A fell to his death from the 14th floor of an apartment in Wonhyoro 1-ga, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, around 5 a.m. on the 27th. The group reportedly told the police that "they gathered as a sports club, and Sergeant A opened the window and jumped."
Five of the group tested positive for narcotics such as ketamine, MDMA (Ecstasy), and cocaine in a simple reagent test, and the police plan to use compulsory measures to test the remaining two who refused the test.
The police seized syringes and unidentified pills from the apartment, which is the residence of one of the group members, and are conducting a detailed analysis to determine whether they were used for drug use. They have also secured evidence that the group held a meeting from around 10 p.m. on the 26th, the day before Sergeant A's death, and that there were additional attendees beyond the eight people including Sergeant A, and are continuing the investigation.
Meanwhile, the National Forensic Service, which conducted an autopsy on Sergeant A's body that day, gave a preliminary verbal opinion that "the cause of death was injuries caused by multiple blunt forces." This means that the body was damaged in several places due to impact with a hard object. The police explained that due to the severe damage to the body caused by the impact at the time of the fall, it is difficult to confirm whether there were injuries caused by other external forces through the autopsy alone.
