Yeosu City Launches Special Crackdown on Illegal Distribution of 'Yeosu Love Gift Certificates'
Administrative Actions Including Fines and Franchise Registration Cancellation Upon Detection
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) is launching a special crackdown on the illegal distribution of paper-type Yeosu Sarang Gift Certificates ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
This special crackdown aims to prevent the occurrence of illegal distribution of Yeosu Sarang Gift Certificates and encourage their proper use before the special discount sale of paper-type gift certificates prior to Chuseok.
The crackdown period will run from the 30th of this month to September 8th, during which a special task force will conduct inspections targeting paper-type gift certificate merchants vulnerable to illegal distribution.
The main targets of the crackdown include △ receiving or exchanging gift certificates without selling goods or providing services △ receiving or exchanging gift certificates through transactions exceeding actual sales amounts △ merchants operating in restricted business categories △ refusing gift certificate payments or treating users unfairly.
During the crackdown period, the task force will immediately deploy on-site inspections at merchants suspected of illegal transactions based on citizen reports and monitoring through the ‘Abnormal Transaction Detection System’.
Yeosu City will impose strong administrative and financial measures such as fines up to 20 million KRW according to relevant laws, cancellation of merchant registration, and recovery of unfair profits upon detection of illegal activities. Depending on the severity of the case, the city plans to refer the matter to the police for investigation.
Jo Yong-yeon, Director of the Regional Economy Division, stated, “We will revitalize the local economy and ensure transparency in gift certificate distribution through continuous management of merchants, constant crackdowns on illegal distribution, and expanded issuance of card-type gift certificates. We ask for the active cooperation of citizens and small business owners to prevent illegal distribution.”
