Young was pregnant and due to give birth in November. She was taken to the hospital immediately after being shot but died shortly after arrival along with the fetus. According to her family, Young also had two sons aged 3 and 6.
Local police explained in a briefing, "Young, a suspect in a theft case, did not comply with the police checkpoint and accelerated her vehicle toward the officers, which led to the police shooting."
The police stated, "Despite ordering her to get out of the car more than 10 times, she did not comply and pressed the accelerator toward the officer standing in front of the vehicle while still in gear. Subsequently, the officer in front of the vehicle fired a shot through the windshield."
On the 26th (local time), John Belford, Chief of Police at Blendentownship in Ohio, USA, briefed on the incident in which Takia Young (21) died from a police shooting.

Local police plan to review the release of body camera footage capturing this incident.
Court records show that a warrant had been issued for Young earlier last week related to other legal violations.
Young’s family criticized the police’s excessive response in media interviews, stating, "We understand she locked the car door because she was scared when the police pointed guns and approached. They did not need to kill my granddaughter and her baby."
