It is a challenge for the inaugural champion Seo Yoseop to defend his title for the second consecutive time.
He aims for victory at the KPGA Korean Tour LX Championship (total prize money 600 million KRW), held over four days from the 31st at The Haven Country Club (par 72, 7,293 yards) in Daebu-do, Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. Seo Yoseop lifted the winner's trophy at the first-ever LX Championship last year. He achieved a 'wire-to-wire' victory by shooting scores in the 60s for four consecutive days alone. His 9-under-par 63 in the first round is also the course record at The Haven Country Club. The winning score of 22-under-par 266 is the lowest 72-hole score in the tournament's history.
Last year, Seo Yoseop secured two wins, finishing 2nd in the Genesis Points (5,162 points), 2nd in average score (70.30), and 9th in the prize money ranking (422.83 million KRW). However, this year, his performance has been somewhat lackluster. His only top-10 finish was 3rd place at the DB Insurance Promy Open, a sponsor event, in April. Last week, he participated as the defending champion at the KPGA Gunsan CC Open but missed the cut. Currently, he ranks 34th in Genesis Points (1,279 points), 33rd in prize money ranking (97.07 million KRW), and 48th in average score (72.34). Seo Yoseop said, "Since I was the inaugural champion, this tournament holds a special meaning more than any other. I will do my best to achieve good results again this year."
