Songpa-gu Hosts 'Korean Food Cooking Class' for Foreigners
September 5 & 12 Korean Food Experience Classes for Foreigners Held at Garak Market Cooking Studio
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will hold a Korean food culture experience class, the ‘Korean Food Cooking Class,’ for foreign residents and tourists visiting Korea this September.
This event is co-hosted by the district and the Seoul Agricultural & Marine Products Corporation with the goal of attracting foreign tourists and revitalizing the Jamsil Tourism Special Zone. As the global status of Korean culture rises, the event was organized to provide foreigners interested in Korean cuisine with an opportunity to learn about Korean ingredients and experience cooking firsthand.
A district official stated, “The capacity was doubled from 20 to 40 compared to last year, but it was fully booked within two days of opening registration due to high popularity,” adding, “Participants come from 16 countries including the United States, France, Chile, and Uzbekistan, reflecting the global interest in Korean food.”
The cooking classes will be held on September 5 and 12 from 2:30 PM for about three hours at the cooking studio inside Garak Market. Each session will accommodate around 20 participants who will engage in both theoretical lessons and practical cooking. They will make and taste Dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken) and Pajeon (green onion pancake), dishes featured in the recipe book of the Hallyu star BTS.
The classes will be led by Chef Dario (Dario Joseph Lee, Germany), who has appeared on various broadcasts such as ‘You Quiz on the Block’ and serves as a Korean culture ambassador. He will introduce the unfamiliar Korean food culture with his unique witty storytelling.
Many staff members will be deployed to ensure smooth class operation and comfortable communication. A separate host will conduct simultaneous interpretation in Korean and English, and English-proficient tourism supporters will assist with directions and class support to provide meticulous assistance so participants do not experience any inconvenience.
