Seoul Metropolitan Council Holds Plenary Session at 2 PM on the 28th with 99 Members Attending; Expulsion of Councilor Jeong Jin-sul Approved with 76 Votes in Favor, 16 Against, and 7 Abstentions
Jeong Jin-sul, a Seoul city council member from the Democratic Party of Korea, was dishonorably expelled on the afternoon of the 28th, becoming the first council member to be expelled due to allegations of sexual misconduct.
The Seoul Metropolitan Council (Chairman Kim Hyun-gi) held a plenary session from 2 p.m. that day to vote on the expulsion of Councilor Jeong Jin-sul (Mapo), who was recommended for expulsion by the Ethics Committee over sexual misconduct allegations. Out of 99 attending council members, 76 voted in favor, 16 against, and 7 abstained, resulting in the expulsion decision.
It appears that there were many abstentions from the Democratic Party during this vote as well.

With this, Councilor Jeong has become the first Seoul city council member to be expelled. A by-election will be held next year to fill the vacancy caused by his expulsion ahead of the general election.
