Yoon and Prime Minister Han Share Seafood Lunch... Assorted Sashimi Also Served at Presidential Office Cafeteria
President Yoon Urges "Top Priority on Stabilizing Prices for Chuseok"
President Yoon Suk-yeol had a weekly meeting and lunch with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on the 28th, featuring seafood dishes. This is interpreted as an effort to dispel concerns about seafood consumption related to the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean.
On the same day, President Yoon held a weekly meeting with Prime Minister Han at the Yongsan Presidential Office and made this request, according to a written briefing by presidential spokesperson Lee Do-woon.
During the weekly meeting and lunch, President Yoon instructed Prime Minister Han to "prioritize stabilizing prices for Chuseok."
At the presidential office cafeteria that day, a menu focused on seafood such as assorted sashimi including flatfish and rockfish, and grilled mackerel was offered at the usual price of 3,000 won.
As concerns about reduced consumption in the fisheries industry grew following the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant, this was a measure by the president to encourage consumption. The presidential office will provide Korean seafood as the lunch menu in the office cafeteria for one week starting from that day.
