A man armed with a weapon was apprehended after a standoff with police lasting two and a half hours near Gusan Station in the residential area of Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul.
The Eunpyeong Police Station in Seoul announced on the 27th that at around 10:05 PM on the 26th, they arrested Mr. A on the spot on charges of obstructing official duties at the first-floor parking lot of a piloti-structured villa building in Galhyeon-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul. The police responded to a witness report at around 7:30 PM that day and confronted Mr. A, who was armed with weapons in both hands.
According to the police, the man swung the weapon toward the police and threatened to harm himself by pressing the weapon against his chest. The police attempted to communicate with him and coax him into putting down the weapon before deploying a special task force to subdue him. No one was injured.
The police confiscated a total of eight weapons, including seven blades found in Mr. A’s bag.
Investigations into Mr. A began on the morning of the 27th. After detaining him the previous day, the police tried to persuade him to cooperate with a late-night interrogation, but he refused. A police official stated that under current law, suspects cannot be interrogated at night if they refuse.

A police official said, "We will confirm the exact circumstances of the incident through the investigation," and added, "We intend to apply for an arrest warrant for Mr. A within the day once the investigation is complete."
