GS25 Launches Transportation Card for Foreigners Only... "Up to 20% Discount Benefits"
A special discount benefit foreigner-only transportation card has been launched at convenience stores.
On the 27th, GS25, a convenience store operated by GS Retail, announced that it has partnered with Roca Mobility to launch the first foreigner-only transportation card in the convenience store industry, ‘Hanbok Chunsik Roca M,’ targeting the increasing demand from foreign tourists.
According to the Korea Tourism Organization, about 4.43 million foreign tourists visited Korea in the first half of this year, a 447% increase compared to the same period last year. GS25 also saw a significant growth with a 60.4% increase in Alipay payment transactions in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year. In line with this trend, GS25 launched the foreigner-only transportation card ‘Hanbok Chunsik Roca M’ to provide reasonable benefits to foreign tourists visiting convenience stores to purchase transportation cards. The price is 5,000 won.
This new product features discount services through a strategic partnership with the travel platform Creatrip, in addition to the existing transportation card services. It offers up to 20% discounts at over 180 stores nationwide, including popular food and beverage outlets such as Seoul88 Beer and Cafe Trueus, as well as duty-free shops and retail stores like Shinsegae Duty Free and ABC Mart.
After purchasing the transportation card, users can download discount coupons by scanning the QR code attached to the product package. The card is available in two colors, pink and blue, and features Chunsik, a Kakao Friends character loved by foreign tourists.
GS25 began sales on the 24th at 235 stores with a high proportion of foreign customers, including Myeongdong, Itaewon, Hongdae, and Seoul Station, and plans to expand the number of stores carrying the card by the end of this year.
