"Because He's Young, Please Forgive"... Mother of 40s Man Involved in Cafe Indecent Act Requests Leniency
"Just Before Imprisonment, 'Please Forgive Our Child Just Once'"
A cafe owner who reported a man in his 40s secretly engaging in obscene acts revealed that the man's mother requested leniency, saying, "He's young, so please go easy on him."
The business owner posted about the incident on June 25 in the self-employed community 'Because It Hurts, I'm the Boss,' expressing distress over the man's mother repeatedly calling to ask for leniency.
Right after the incident, the owner shared on this community, "I'm terrified because a customer committed obscene acts in my store." The post gained media attention, leading to public discussion and prompting the police to start an investigation. The man turned himself in to the police on the 23rd.
However, it was revealed that the man's mother continued to request leniency up until just before his surrender. The owner stated, "(The man's side) wanted me to show leniency before he turned himself in."
According to the owner, the man's mother contacted her starting on the 22nd, the day the man's obscene acts were reported in the media.
The owner said, "During our brief first call, the man's mother did not offer any apology and demanded to meet and talk."
When the owner refused to meet, the mother said in a second call, "I'm sorry, but please forgive my son just this once. He's young... he's young."
The man, despite being in his 40s, engaged in obscene acts for four hours in the cafe, and his mother insisted on leniency, saying, "Our son is still young."
The owner said, "I told her, 'I don't want to show leniency; he should turn himself in,' but they wanted my leniency before surrendering." She added, "Even after I told her not to call, she called again. It was only after I met with the police and gave them the perpetrator's mother's number that I received news from the police that the perpetrator had turned himself in."
The owner stated, "I told them I neither want an apology nor leniency. I don't have the courage to face the man directly and receive an apology, and even if he begged on his hands and knees, the apology wouldn't feel sincere, nor is there any guarantee it won't happen again."
The man is accused of staying for four hours on the afternoon of the 10th at a cafe in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, while engaging in obscene acts.
At the time, the female owner working alone at the cafe noticed the man through CCTV and reported him to 112 the next day.
The owner also shared this experience on an online community on the 22nd. She explained, "It was pouring rain, just after lunch when it was quiet. He came in, ordered a warm cafe latte, three bottles of beer, and a milk tea, and stayed for four hours. Since there were no other customers, I felt grateful. I was sitting in the kitchen looking at my phone."
She said she suddenly felt something was off. "When I checked the CCTV, the customer kept placing his foldable phone on the table, looking at it, then looking at me repeatedly. He was moving his body away slightly while watching me, so I thought it was strange."
She added, "I sent a screenshot of the CCTV to my younger sibling, saying, 'A customer who comes occasionally keeps watching me.' My sibling asked, 'Why are his hands like that?' Upon reviewing the CCTV again, we discovered the man was engaging in obscene acts alone."

However, since the owner did not witness the obscene acts directly but found out through CCTV, she was considered a witness, not a victim, in the police investigation.
