Seongnam City Signs Agreement with 5 Hospitals and Medical Organizations to Strengthen Treatment and Management of Mental Illness Patients

View original imageOn the 24th, Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province signed a business agreement with five local hospitals and the Association of Private Psychiatric Clinics to strengthen the treatment and management of mentally ill patients, following the stabbing incident at Seohyeon Station.
Seongnam City announced that on the same day, at the situation room on the 4th floor of City Hall, it jointly signed the "Agreement to Strengthen Community Mental Illness Management" with Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, Bundang CHA Hospital, Bundang Jesaeng Hospital, Huen Hospital, Seongnam Sarang Hospital, and the Seongnam City Association of Private Psychiatric Clinics.
Under this agreement, the seven institutions, hospitals, and organizations will cooperate in ▲ identifying high-risk individuals in the blind spots of treatment discontinuation and activating connections between mental health welfare centers and psychiatric medical institutions ▲ collaboration for maintaining treatment and continuous management of patients with severe illnesses ▲ consultation and cooperation related to mental health projects ▲ and other joint cooperative projects to promote community mental health.
After the signing ceremony, Seongnam City held a "Policy Discussion on Support for Management of Severe Mental Illness Patients" at Hannuri on the 3rd floor of Seongnam City Hall.
The discussion was chaired by Professor Kwon Junsu of the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at Seoul National University Graduate School, and featured a presentation by Lee Haewoo, Mental Health Director of the Korean Neuropsychiatric Association, on "Support for Mental Illness Patient Management and Judicial Hospitalization System," followed by opinions from three panelists.

Seongnam Mayor Shin Sangjin stated, "For mentally ill patients who have discontinued treatment, it is necessary for the community to cooperate in preventive measures to ensure they receive isolation treatment and management," and added, "The government should also find and implement effective measures at the national level."
