Gyeongsangnam-do is operating Emergency Level 1 to prevent loss of life and property damage caused by heavy rain.
According to Gyeongnam Province and the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 24th, as of 8:40 PM on the 23rd, a heavy rain advisory was issued for Changwon, Jinju, Tongyeong, Gimhae, Geoje, Goseong, Namhae, Hadong, Sancheong, and Hamyang.
At 5:40 AM on the 24th, a heavy rain warning was issued for Yangsan, and heavy rain of 50 to 120 mm per hour is expected mainly in the southern regions, with over 150 mm per hour near the southern coast and Jirisan area.
During the night, heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning poured down in various parts of the province, and as of 9 AM on the 24th, the cumulative rainfall reached an average of 56.0 mm.
Gyeongnam Province urged all agencies and affiliated organizations to thoroughly disseminate information and take measures such as facility inspections to prevent lightning accidents.
Residents were informed through various media such as disaster text messages, broadcasts, and electronic display boards to refrain from outdoor activities like hiking and golf and to familiarize themselves with national action guidelines.
Safety management of disaster-prone areas and daily inspections in preparation for heavy rain, conducted after the recent typhoon, have been strengthened.
Sixty-three locations at risk of landslides and flooding, including riverside parking lots, Sewolgyo Bridge, riverside walking trails, valleys, and hiking trails, were preemptively controlled.
The province plans to do its best to prevent casualties caused by this summer’s typhoons and heavy rain through situation management and proactive measures.
Choi Man-rim, the Deputy Governor, instructed, “Deputy heads of cities and counties where heavy rain preliminary warnings are issued must immediately take their positions and work,” and added, “Establish a situation management system centered on deputy heads by responding to disaster reports at city and county situation rooms through direct reporting to deputy heads, and request cooperation from related agencies if necessary.”
