Former Executive of Major Real Estate Development Company
Term Lasts Four Years Until Next General Election
Settha Thavisin, elected as Thailand's next prime minister, received royal approval on the 23rd.
According to local media, Maha Vajiralongkorn, the King of Thailand, approved Settha as the next prime minister just one day after he was elected by the parliament.
Settha was confirmed as Thailand's 30th prime minister, succeeding Prayut Chan-o-cha, who held the position for nine years after seizing power in the 2014 coup. The prime minister's term is four years until the next general election.
On the same day, Settha received the royal approval letter at the Pheu Thai Party headquarters and will officially take office once the cabinet is formed. Settha is the former chairman of Sansiri, a major real estate development company in Thailand, and joined the Pheu Thai Party ahead of the May general election. Considering cabinet appointments and qualification reviews, it is expected to take about three weeks for the next government to be launched.
