Jeonnam National Sports Festival Success Heats Up... Donations Keep Pouring In
Donations from institutions and companies wishing for the successful hosting of the National Sports Festival and the National Para Games, held in Jeonnam for the first time in 15 years, are continuing to pour in.
On the 21st, Jeonnam Province announced that four representative companies from the Honam region donated a total of 400 million KRW to the Jeonnam Sports Council to support the successful hosting of the 104th National Sports Festival and the 43rd National Para Games.
POSCO, Woomi Construction, Jungheung Group, and Boseong Group each donated 100 million KRW.
Attending the donation ceremony were Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province and Chairperson of the National Sports Festival Organizing Committee; Song Jin-ho, President of the Jeonnam Sports Council; Park Jeong-hyun, Executive Vice President of the Jeonnam Sports Council; Lee Jin-su, Head of POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks; Kim Young-gil, President of Woomi Construction; Lee Kyung-ho, CEO of Jungheung Construction; and Chae Jeong-seop, President of Seonamhaean Enterprise City Development.
The donations will be used for the convenience of spectators at the opening and closing ceremonies of the National Sports Festival and the National Para Games, which will be held in Jeonnam in October and November, respectively, and for the benefit of local residents.
As of August, the Jeonnam Sports Council has received a total of 740 million KRW in donations and donated goods worth approximately 130 million KRW to support the successful hosting of the National Sports Festival. The donations will be allocated and managed as a separate budget after approval by the board of directors to ensure the success of both major sports events.
Chairperson Kim Young-rok said, “I sincerely thank the companies that decided to donate despite the difficult local economic conditions. With the passionate interest and support for the successful hosting of the National Sports Festival, we plan to do our best in preparing for the event, which is just over 50 days away.”
The 104th National Sports Festival will be held from October 13 to 19, centered in Mokpo, across 22 cities and counties, and 70 venues, featuring 49 sports disciplines. The 43rd National Para Games will take place from November 3 to 8, across 12 cities and counties, and 38 venues, with 31 sports disciplines.

Considering the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and other circumstances, it is expected that approximately 40,000 athletes and many spectators will visit Jeonnam, raising great anticipation for this year’s National Sports Festival and Para Games.
