34 'Small Parks' Utilizing Renewable Energy Created in 21 Cities and Counties of Gyeonggi-do... 17.4 Billion KRW Invested
Gyeonggi Province will invest 17.4 billion KRW this year to create 'small parks' utilizing renewable energy in 34 locations around the living areas of 21 cities and counties within the province.
The small park creation project involves establishing small parks around residential areas using renewable energy and eco-friendly materials.
This initiative aims to address climate crisis effects such as urban heat island and heatwave mitigation, carbon absorption, and fine dust reduction. The project follows up on the 'Gyeonggi RE100 Vision' announced by Governor Kim Dong-yeon in April.
Gyeonggi Province identified demand from cities and counties by June and recently completed a suitability review of the target sites, with full-scale project implementation starting this month.
The selected areas include 34 sites across 21 cities and counties such as Yongin, Siheung, Namyangju, and Pocheon, covering a total area of 349,200㎡. The project is fully funded by the provincial government (17.4 billion KRW).
When implementing the project, facilities utilizing renewable energy must account for at least 20% of the project cost to promote the Gyeonggi RE100 Vision, and eco-friendly materials such as natural loess and coconut mats must be used.
Additionally, barrier-free elements must be applied to create a park environment that considers universal design for vulnerable pedestrians and people with disabilities in access paths, signboards, and rest areas, complying with the certification for barrier-free living environments.
In particular, to create parks that residents desire, public opinions will be collected from the design stage of the small parks, and resident briefings will be held during project implementation, making it a resident-participatory project.
