Seocho District Launches 'Healing Agriculture' Program to Boost Vitality for Cancer Patients
District to Operate Home-Based Cancer Patient Healing Agriculture Program ‘Amam Gwaenchanha Gwaenchango Malgo’ Until October 13
A total of eight sessions will be held, including hands-on education utilizing plant resources and communication time through a garden party, with 14 local home-based cancer patients participating.
District Mayor Jeon Seongsoo stated, “We will do our utmost to support the swift recovery of home-based cancer patients through various healing programs.”
Seocho District (District Mayor Jeon Seongsoo) is operating a healing agriculture program, ‘Amam Gwaenchanha Gwaenchango Malgo,’ to help relieve depression and promote psychological stability among local cancer patients.
This healing agriculture program, the first of its kind among Seoul’s autonomous districts, is being offered to 14 home-based cancer patients registered for home-visit health management. The program runs every Friday for a total of eight sessions from August 18 to October 13.
The training is structured as hands-on content with a certified horticultural therapist, designed to help cancer patients recover and manage their psychological and social functions.
Detailed sessions include making pressed flower name tags and grass dolls, as well as transplanting herb plants, creating flower baskets, building succulent gardens, making herb tea bags, crafting pressed flower coasters, and sowing microgreens and making dried flower corsages. Each session utilizes plant resources for practical education.
Additionally, on the final eighth session, scheduled for October 13, a garden party will be held using the herb tea bags, pressed flower coasters, and corsages made during the program. This will provide participants with an opportunity to communicate and share positive energy.
The venue is the Umyeon-dong Healing Farm, operated by the agricultural corporation ‘Cooking Seoul Farmer,’ which recently signed a business agreement with the district.
One participant from the first session on August 18 shared, “There haven’t been many reasons to smile during cancer treatment, but coming out to nature, breathing fresh air, and taking part in these wonderful activities has really lifted my spirits. Sharing stories with fellow patients is healing, and I look forward to the next class.”
For more information about participating in the program, please contact the Health Policy Division of Seocho District Public Health Center.
The district plans to analyze the effectiveness of this pilot program by conducting pre- and post-program surveys and measuring participants’ stress levels, and will decide whether to expand the program in the future based on these results.
