His visits have become more frequent not only to sites where citizens were injured in incidents and accidents but also to national events such as the Jamboree.
On the afternoon of the 18th, Mayor Oh visited the scene of a daytime rape incident on the park trail in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu. Around 2 p.m. that day, he went to the Gwanak-gu Civil Defense Training Center, received a briefing on the incident site from Kim Hak-bae, Chairman of the Seoul Autonomous Police Committee, and then visited the scene with Park Min-young, Chief of Gwanak Police Station, and others. On the way to the site, Mayor Oh checked the status of CCTV installations and said, "I deeply regret that unexpected crimes keep occurring," expressing the need to establish fundamental countermeasures.
He specifically announced plans to install as many AI-based CCTVs as possible to reduce blind spots in surveillance and to expand the installation of black boxes in high-risk areas and major hiking trails.
From the mayor's perspective, who must protect the precious lives of citizens, it is regrettable that such unfortunate incidents occur, and this statement reflects his determination to prevent further occurrences.
Recently, Mayor Oh was also praised for his proper handling of the urgent situation during the Saemangeum Jamboree, where abnormal high temperatures and restroom issues caused British and American participants to leave the site and come to Seoul. Notably, after receiving a cooperation call from President Yoon Suk-yeol requesting support to properly care for the Jamboree participants who left the Saemangeum site, Mayor Oh promptly held a video conference with the heads of Seoul's 25 districts, leading to a successful conclusion of the event through swift action.
By actively visiting sites where "citizens and foreigners visiting Seoul are suffering" and enhancing on-site response capabilities, Mayor Oh is demonstrating leadership befitting the title of the first four-term elected Seoul mayor, earning the trust of citizens.
Mayor Oh is a mayor who does not neglect visiting the scene. Last year, when the Itaewon disaster occurred during his business trip to Europe, he immediately returned home and visited the site, offering tears in consolation to the spirits of the deceased. He has also visited protest sites that halted the Seoul subway and the flooded Sadang Station during heavy rains, continuing his on-site visits.
As the representative of 10 million Seoul citizens, despite significant development achievements such as rapid integrated redevelopment, Han River development, and the creation of garden cities, failing to protect citizens' lives from incidents and accidents could cause greater damage to his leadership.
