Gumi Asia Theater Festival, Various Attractions Held for 5 Days
'Here, There Is a Play' Theme... Philippine and Japanese Overseas Theater Groups Participate
Gumi City, Gyeongbuk Province (Mayor Kim Jang-ho) will host the "2023 Gumi Asia Theater Festival" from August 30 to September 3 at the Gumi Culture and Arts Center and the Small Theater Gongteoda, organized by the Korea Theater Association Gumi Branch (Representative Kim Yong-won).
This year's Gumi Asia Theater Festival, under the theme "Here, There is Theater," will take place over five days, featuring official performances (two overseas theater groups from the Philippines and Japan, and three domestic teams) and small theater planned performances (four teams).
The official performances include "San Bakk-e Dasi San" by the cultural creative group Gongteoda, which looks into the life of Gumi historical figure Songdang Park Young, starting on the 30th; "Mister Hoya" by Theater Company Hanwoollim on the 31st; a performance by a Philippine theater group on September 1; "Ppulnan Oni" by Theater Company Sinbihan Umjigim Sajeon on the 2nd; and a performance by the Japanese theater group Tokyo Highbeam on the 3rd, totaling five productions on stage.
The small theater planned performances, each with a running time of 30 minutes, will present "Nawa Orang-i" by Dungi on the 31st; "Dongmureul Wihayeo" by Theater Company Najeun San on September 1; "Barami Bureo, Choroksaek Moja" by Gorilla on the 2nd; and "4rang Iyagi" by Lalala on the 3rd, to be showcased to the citizens.
In addition to the theater performances, a side event called the Gumi Asia Theater Festival Exhibition will be held concurrently to introduce the participating works.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, "There are various attractions including works inspired by Gumi’s historical figures, family-friendly entertaining performances, and invited performances by overseas theater groups, so we hope many people will attend."
