Jongno-gu 'Cheongun Literature Library Reading Club' Operation
Held every fourth Thursday until December 21, the program aims to understand and communicate about humanity in novels and films.
Lectures 1 to 5 cover works such as ‘Woman in Gold’ and ‘The Boy in the Striped Pajamas’... Participation is free, with both in-person and online options available.
Jongno-gu (Mayor Jeong Munheon) will operate the 'Cheongun Literature Library Complete Reading Club' every fourth Thursday evening from August 24 to December 21 at Cheongun Literature Library (40 Jahamun-ro 36-gil).
The program selects films based on books to reflect on humanity in novels and movies and to provide a time for deep mutual communication.
Under the theme lecture titled ‘People in Novels and Films: Modern Civilization and the Scars of Humanity,’ it aims to offer an experience where art connects to life.
The lectures will be led by Professor Han Seonghun from Yonsei University Institute of Korean Studies. The program consists of five sessions: ▲Lecture 1 ? Stories about Gustav Klimt’s masterpiece (Book/Movie: Woman in Gold) ▲Lecture 2 ? Friendship and reversed fate of two boys meeting across a concentration camp boundary (Book/Movie: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas) ▲Lecture 3 ? Representative work of the most original political thinker of our time, Hannah Arendt (Book: Eichmann in Jerusalem / Movie: Hannah Arendt) ▲Lecture 4 ? In a world full of contradictions, where would you stand? (Book: The Death of the One Who Hates No One / Movie: Sophie Scholl ? The Final Days) ▲Lecture 5 ? Insights on the ethics of the perpetrator revealed in unconventional love (Book: The Reader / Movie: The Reader).
Participation is free. On-site attendance is limited to the first 40 people, and online participation is also available. Applications can be made online through the Jongno Cultural Foundation website or by phone inquiry at Cheongun Literature Library.
